A group of people from across Massachusetts took a tour of the Wellspring Harvest Greenhouse in celebration of Urban Agriculture Week (held August 9-15). Fred Rose, Wellspring co-director, led the tour.
Eleven participants who sampled our new value added products (pesto and basil-ginger lemonade) with very positive feedback. Two participants came from the Boston area to learn about our hydroponic growing system. A fellow farmer came, which led to an exploration of ways that we could do some joint purchasing to reduce costs. Other participants were from the Food Bank of Western Mass, and the University of Massachusetts.
Overall these tours helped to inform people about urban agriculture and to strengthen partnerships that we will build on at Wellspring Harvest.
